How to choose the perfect pillow
March 1st, 2025
Discover which wool pillow suits your sleep style - from carded vs. wool ball construction and washability options to soft vs. medium firmness.
A good pillow does more than support your head - it plays an essential role in how well you sleep.
Filled with traceable British wool, Floks pillows are naturally breathable and temperature regulating, helping to create a cooler, drier and more comfortable sleep environment throughout the night. Wool continually absorbs and releases moisture as you sleep, making it naturally resistant to bacteria, dust mites, mould and mildew without the need for chemical treatments. Unlike feather or synthetic fillings, wool offers gentle, responsive support that softly moulds to the shape of your head and neck. The feeling is similar to natural latex or foam, but with greater breathability and none of the heat retention.
Caring for a wool pillow is refreshingly simple. Wool rarely needs washing and is naturally self-refreshing. Instead, place your pillow outside on a dry, sunny day and allow fresh air and natural UV light to revitalise the fibres. If needed, the removable GOTS-certified organic cotton cover can be washed separately, while our quilted pillow cover should be hand washed only.
Every Floks pillow is made without synthetic fibres or chemical treatments. Our British wool is thoroughly cleaned using only hot water before being carded into lofty, even layers that won't clump or shift over time. The filling can be removed easily, making the pillow simple to plump, adjust and care for.
Made from natural materials throughout, every Floks pillow is designed to last for years and, at the end of its life, is fully biodegradable. Better for your sleep, and kinder to the
Why choose a Floks wool pillow?
Better days begin the night before.
Every Floks product starts with the same question: how can we help you sleep better? That thinking shapes every material we choose and every detail we refine.
Our pillows sit at the heart of the Floks sleep system. Designed to be fully adjustable, they allow you to tailor the height and support to suit the way you sleep. Paired with our wool duvets, they create a naturally breathable sleep environment designed for lasting comfort throughout the night.
Each pillow is generously filled with traceable British Cheviot wool, carefully carded into lofty, even layers that won't clump or shift over time. Made in the UK, the filling is encased in GOTS-certified undyed organic cotton and finished with a removable construction, making it easy to adjust, care for and refresh.
Every pillow arrives in a reusable recycled cotton storage bag, so whether you're storing it between seasons or taking it away for the weekend, the comfort of home can travel with you.

Why wool pillows perform differently to synthetic / feather alternatives
A wool pillow offers a very different sleep experience to synthetic or feather alternatives.
Naturally breathable and temperature regulating, British wool continually absorbs and releases moisture throughout the night, helping to keep your pillow fresh, dry and comfortably cool. Rather than trapping heat, it creates a more balanced sleep environment that stays comfortable across the seasons.
Support is different too. Feather and synthetic fillings can shift, clump or flatten over time, creating uneven areas that affect how well your head and neck are supported. Our pillows are filled with finely carded British Cheviot wool, layered evenly to provide consistent support that gently adapts to you night after night.
If you're switching to wool for the first time, the feel may take a little getting used to. Like any change to your sleep environment, your body needs time to adjust to a new level of support and a different natural texture.
Give it a few nights, and you'll begin to experience the breathable comfort, gentle support and restorative sleep that make wool pillows so different.

Which pillow is best for me?
There are factors to consider when choosing the right pillow, and some frequently asked questions and guidance are:
“I am a side sleeper, is there a pillow option that would suit me best?”
Side sleepers need support for the gap between the shoulder and head. This space varies in size from person to person, however many of our side sleeping customers do report that our standard medium pillows offer great comfort and pressure relief. Our luxury quilted pillows offer the most structure and support which can be easily tailored to your needs.
“I currently sleep with two pillows, will one wool pillow replace them both?”
Pairing a soft wool pillow with a medium pillow gives maximum softness and support for those who like the higher profile of sleeping with two pillows. These can be purchased as a bundle in our Perfect Pillow Pair option. Alternatively, our fully adjustable quilted wool pillow may give enough height and support to replace your two pillows.
“I suffer with allergies and can’t use feather pillows”
Wool can be an excellent alternative for people who are unable to use feather-filled pillows.
Naturally breathable and resistant to dust mites, wool helps create a cleaner, drier sleep environment without the need for chemical treatments. Its ability to absorb and release moisture also makes it less hospitable to the conditions in which allergens can thrive.
Many people with allergies or sensitivities find wool to be a comfortable, natural choice that helps them wake feeling fresher and less congested.
“Is wool bedding a good option for children?”
Yes. Wool is naturally temperature regulating, making it an excellent choice for children, whose body temperature fluctuates more during sleep than an adult's.
By helping to release excess heat and moisture while providing gentle insulation when needed, wool creates a comfortable sleep environment throughout the night. That means little ones are less likely to become too hot or too cold as they sleep, giving parents added peace of mind and helping children wake feeling well rested for the day ahead.
Our Mini Floks collection is also designed with everyday family life in mind. The range is washable to help with the occasional accident, while still offering all the natural comfort and performance of traceable British wool.
